SUPERMAMMAL

SUPERMAMMAL is an expansion on a previous sculptural work by Dr. Pinar Yoldas which depicted various “supermammals” composed of amalgamations of mammary glands and other organs. I worked on this version of the project as a Project Manager, and helping as a developer when needed. From the exhibition site:

"Supermammal" (2021) is an online subversive gaming experience by artist Pinar Yoldas that triggers conversations around biological essentialism. Based on a retro mobile game called Snake popularized by Nokia in the 90's, the artwork invites players to collect body parts that are conventionally thought of as female as in vulva or male as in penis, as well as those that are regarded neutral such as lips or butts. As the game progresses, the creature amalgamates genitalia belonging to both sexes, complicating the recognition detection of gender.

Supermammal (2021) was created for an exhibition called “CONTROL THE VIRUS”, curated by DATEAGLE ART, a London-based contemporary art platform which highlights emerging and marginalized artists. CONTROL THE VIRUS responds to “fervent multiplication”, claiming, “To log on or plug off might be one of the only means of exerting control over the fractious state of the world”.
